Spring 2012 Media Fast!

What: 40-Day media fast
When : May 1 to June 9th

Many of you have expressed wanting to take steps to not waste time, such as overly consuming media, playing video games, etc. Here’s an idea: for the rest of the Spring Quarter, let’s cut out one aspect of media out of our lives through the 40-Day Media Fast! Just imagine all the extra time you’ll now have to strengthen in your real-life relationships, to better study, and to grow in your relationship with God!

Here’s how to get involve and join up with others to tackle this media:

1. Pick a form of media to abstain from for the rest of the entire spring quarter. Try to pick the most relevant form of media for you, something that eats up a lot of your time – some have mentioned gaming, others youtube or other drama-videos… etc, you know you… pick it yourself!

3. Post comments on how things are going!

On Saturday, May 5th, churches from Davis will be fanning out across Davis, Dixon and Woodland to serve our community. Our church is responsible for helping to clean up the UC Davis Arboretum! We’ll be doing litter pickup and wiping down signs and benches. The time is TBD but will happen sometime between 9-2pm. Please sign up below to help make the Arboretum beautiful! Good Friday Service & Easter Service

We will be holding our Good Friday Service (4/6) at our 607 Pena church building at 7:30pm. In preparation for that, we have showing abridged version of the Passion of the Christ throughout the Passion Week at the following time and location:

Tue – 7pm at 607 Pena
Wed – 7pm at 607 Pena
Thu – 9pm at Giedt 1001
Thu – 7pm at 607 Pena (with Chinese subtitles)
Fri – 6pm at 607 Pena

The Easter Sunday Service (4/8) will be at the ARC Ballroom on UC Davis campus at 1pm.

Passion Experience

Experience the Passion of Jesus personally through a guided journey through the different events in the Passion week leading up to Jesus’ death on the Cross. You’ll meet some of the people Jesus interacted with in the last week of His life and get a glimpse into what Jesus thought, what He saw and what he experienced.

It will be held at our 607 Pena church building for you to sign up in 15 minute intervals. The whole experience takes about 1hour including reflection and personal prayer time.

If you’re available during the day, please try to sign up for daytime slots so that people who work full-time may have priority during the early morning and evening time slots. Please sign up here.

Message Series – God the Good

Many portraits of God tend to emphasize the merciful, kind, sweet, loving God; the waiting Father and tender Shepherd. While these are all true, they do not capture the entire discussion when we consider our understanding that God is “good.” In fact, God’s goodness has much to do with an aspect of His character that isn’t always deeply thought through and appreciated: His holiness. God’s mercy and love and grace become the wondrous and amazing things they are in light of God’s holiness, justice and wrath. Against this backdrop, we examine the recent devotions and other scriptures found throughout the Bible to confront one of the central doctrines of Christianity: that we all must answer to God, and that He is the Judge. How this Judge orders our lives and gives us an accounting is the subject of our message today.

2012 Valentine’s Day of Compassion

In 2006, our sisters and some brothers decided to turn an ordinary Valentine’s Day into a Day of Compassion by visiting elderly homes and homeless shelters throughout the Bay Area, contrary to the popular notion that Valentine’s Day is exclusively about romantic love.
Since that time, our church has embraced this day as an opportunity to bring joy and God’s love to our community with gifts, food, songs, and dance. We’ve visited nursing homes, senior communities, women’s shelters. Please join us for Valentine’s Day of Compassion on Feb 14, 2012. You can sign up here.
